Six tips you should follow before going on summer holiday

Summer vacation is approaching, and many are looking forward to getting away and relaxing. But before you leave home, it’s smart to take a few simple steps that can save electricity and reduce the risk of problems while you’re gone. Turn the heating down completely
If you don’t have pets or plants that need warmth, turn the thermostat all the way down. There’s no point in heating an empty house during summer. If you have smart controls, you can schedule the temperature to rise the day before you return.
Unplug devices
Electronics in standby mode still use power – this is called “phantom consumption”. TVs, coffee machines, computers and chargers all draw electricity even when not in use. Unplug them – it saves energy and reduces fire risk.
Don´t turn off the water heater
It is not recommended to turn off your water heater when you are on holiday, even if you are away from home for an extended period. Turning it off can lead to the growth of legionella bacteria and may require more energy to heat the water back up than what you save by turning it off. It is better to lower the temperature slightly, but not below 60°C to avoid legionella.
Use a timer for outdoor lighting
If you have outdoor lights, use a timer or light sensor so the lights don’t stay on constantly. This gives both a sense of security and lower electricity consumption.
Close windows and draw curtains
It’s not just about safety. Curtains help keep the heat out and the indoor temperature lower during heatwaves. They also reduce visibility inside when no one’s home.
