Who we help

Embassies, consulates and their staff posted to Norway often arrive without BankID, a Norwegian bank account, or familiarity with how the local electricity system works. We assist in exactly these situations.

What we do in practice

We handle the practical setup of electricity in Norway - including the situations that don't fit standard digital onboarding.

Manual onboarding without BankID

Setup through manual identity verification for customers without Norwegian BankID.

D-number accepted

Customers with a D-number can order electricity using alternative documentation.

Move-in coordination

We coordinate the start date so power is active from your move-in day.

Move-out termination

When staff rotate or a residence is vacated, we handle the termination of the electricity agreement and ensure the metering point is correctly deregistered.

Grid company coordination

We handle all communication with the local grid company through Elhub.

Electricity for embassy buildings

We supply residential properties and official embassy or mission buildings.

Multi-address coordination

One agreement flow can cover multiple addresses for the same embassy or consulate.

Invoice address discretion

Invoices can omit the full residential address for customers who require discretion.

Situations we handle every day

These cases are common for embassies, consulates and their staff in Norway. We have a process for each one.

01

Diplomat moves in before BankID is ready

Electricity must be set up by the move-in date, but BankID isn't issued yet. We start the agreement manually so the supply is active on day one.

02

Embassy employee with only a D-number

The person has a D-number but no Norwegian personal ID. We register the agreement using alternative documentation.

03

Previous tenant still registered on the meter

The previous occupant is still listed at the metering point, blocking a new agreement. We coordinate with the grid company to resolve it.

04

Electricity needed before official move-in date

The embassy or consulate needs power active for cleaning, renovation or technical setup before formal hand-over. We schedule the start date accordingly.

05

Several mission staff moving within a short period

The embassy administration coordinates multiple move-ins and needs a single point of contact handling all cases together.

06

No knowledge of the Norwegian electricity system

The person doesn't know who the grid company is, what a metering point ID is, or how supplier switching works. We explain - in plain English.

07

Written confirmation needed for mission administration

The embassy or consulate needs documented proof of the start date and active agreement. We provide it in English on request.

08

Diplomatic rotation - change of responsible party

A new diplomat is taking over from the previous one at the same address. We handle the change of registered party on the metering point.

How electricity works in Norway

In Norway, the electricity system involves two parties - but with Viddakraft, you only deal with us.

This is Viddakraft

Electricity supplier

You sign one contract - with us. We handle registration with your grid company. Viddakraft is your electricity supplier.

Grid company (nettselskap)

Owns the local network and charges the transmission fee. Separate from the supplier and can't be chosen freely.

Licensed by NVE. Viddakraft holds a concession from NVE (Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat) to supply electricity across the whole of Norway.

What Viddakraft handles

One contract covers everything

When you register with Viddakraft, we handle the entire setup on your behalf. You sign once - we take care of the rest. After registering, you don't need to do anything else.

  • One contract - signed with us only
  • We register you with your local grid company
  • Electricity supply active from day one through to move-out

You pay monthly to two parties: Viddakraft for the electricity itself, and your grid owner for the grid fee. That's how the Norwegian electricity system works - supply and delivery are billed separately.

Government subsidies

You receive Norwegian electricity subsidies

As a private household customer, you automatically receive both Norwegian government subsidies for residential electricity. Both are tax-free.

  • Norgespris - fixed-price scheme for residential electricity
  • Strømstøtte - government compensation when electricity prices are high

Private households only. These subsidies apply to private residences. When the agreement is registered under an embassy's or consulate's organization number, the delivery does not qualify for either scheme.

Identity verification required from 1 June 2025From 1 June 2025, all new customers must complete identity verification. If you don't have BankID, we'll handle it manually - contact us and we'll prepare the agreement and guide you step by step.
Without BankID

Getting electricity in Norway without BankID

BankID is the standard digital identification method in Norway - but it's not the only way to set up electricity. Viddakraft offers manual onboarding for customers who don't have Norwegian BankID yet.

  1. 1 Contact us by email or phone.
  2. 2 We verify your identity through manual documentation.
  3. 3 We register your electricity agreement.
  4. 4 You receive written confirmation and electricity starts on your chosen date.

Move in and move out assistance

Moving in or out of premises in Norway can cause practical issues if electricity isn't arranged in time. Here's what we handle on both ends.

Common problems

What typically goes wrong

  • Previous tenant still registered on the meter
  • No electricity agreement active at the property
  • Embassy or consulate placed on leveringsplikt - the compulsory delivery agreement from the grid company when no supplier is selected
  • Incorrect registration with the grid company
  • A different agent answers the phone every time - no one owns your case
How we resolve it

Viddakraft handles the move-in

  • We check who is registered on the metering point and resolve it
  • We register the correct organization number from day one
  • We establish the electricity agreement before the move-in date
  • We terminate your previous electricity agreement when you move out
